Family Portraits at Eleanor’s NYC First Birthday Studio Session

Eleanor’s NYC first birthday studio session included a little bit of everything: portraits with her parents, a soft pink birthday setup, and simple photos of her on her own. We kept the backgrounds light so the photos could show her expressions, her movement, and all the things her family will want to remember about this age.

Family Portraits for Eleanor’s First Birthday

We made time for photos of Eleanor with both of her parents. They chose soft blue outfits for their family portraits, which worked beautifully against the white studio backdrop. There’s a portrait of all three of them together, as well as a closer moment with Eleanor and her mom.

I always recommend including parents in a first birthday session, even if the photos are mainly for the baby. Years from now, these family portraits will show Eleanor what it looked like to be held by them when she was turning one.

A Pink Birthday Setup for Eleanor’s NYC First Birthday Studio Session

Eleanor’s birthday setup had a pale pink cake, a first birthday hat, and a few pink and white balloons. The details gave the photos a birthday feel while leaving plenty of room for Eleanor to move around. In her pink outfit, she crawled across the backdrop and stood beside the cake for some of the sweetest portraits from the session.

We also photographed the little details before Eleanor joined the set, including her birthday hat and the outfits chosen for her photos. Those images make a lovely introduction to the birthday portraits when the gallery is viewed as a whole. Outfit is from Feltman Brothers.

Simple Studio Portraits in Blue

For another part of the session, Eleanor wore a blue outfit with a white collar. With only the white backdrop behind her, the focus was entirely on her. We photographed her standing, smiling, and crawling toward the camera, then finished with a close portrait in the same outfit.

That’s one of my favorite things about planning a first birthday session at the studio: we can make space for the birthday details and still come away with simple portraits that feel like Eleanor.
