This NYC newborn session with siblings gave us the chance to photograph the new baby with her brother, sister, and parents. We began with the children together, then photographed the whole family and made time for quieter portraits of the baby with each parent.
Everyone wore soft, light colors against the white studio backdrop. The simple setting works especially well for a family session like this one: it keeps the attention on their faces and gives all the portraits a consistent look, even as we move between different family combinations.

Some of the sweetest photos from this session are of the three children together. Her brother and sister sat close to the baby, looked down at her, and had a moment with her in their arms. We also photographed the older siblings with their mom and took portraits of the entire family.
When there are older children at a newborn session, I like to include them early. They can have their photos taken while they’re ready to participate, then take a break as we move on to the baby’s individual portraits. It gives us room to follow how the session is going without asking them to sit still the whole time.

We photographed the baby resting against her mom, sitting with her on the studio sofa, and being held between both parents. These portraits feel different from the larger family photos. They show how small she is in their arms and give each parent a photo with her from these first weeks.
There’s also a simple sleeping portrait of the baby on her own. With a white bow and soft fabric around her, it fits naturally alongside the family photos.
The photos shown here include both color and black and white versions. When you choose the images for your collection, you receive every selected image in both color and black and white. If you select six photos, for example, you receive those same six photos in both versions.
