The Cake Smash — Blue Balloons, a Custom Cake, and One Very Curious Boy

For the cake smash portion of Henry’s session we went with the most beautiful dusty blue balloon garland and a custom cake topped with his name. This is exactly the kind of cake smash photoshoot NYC families come to Heirloom by Melissa for — beautiful, timeless, and completely stress free. The whole setup was soft, elegant, and so perfectly him. And Henry? He was not entirely sure what to make of that cake at first — which honestly made for the most incredible photos. That expression of pure curiosity next to his cake from padoca bakery is one for the books.

We always make time for family portraits during first birthday sessions, and I am so glad we did. Watching dad lift Henry high in the air with that look on Henry’s face — pure wide-eyed wonder — is one of those images that will live on a wall for decades.
