This Upper West Side newborn session took place in the family’s beautiful, sun-filled Manhattan apartment. Photographing a new baby at home creates a personal and relaxed experience while preserving the spaces where a family’s first memories together are made.

Their home was filled with soft natural light, allowing us to create bright, timeless newborn portraits while keeping everything comfortable and relaxed. We photographed their baby with both parents, created individual portraits with Mom and Dad, and included meaningful details from the nursery.

The baby wore a beautiful white knit outfit from Feltman Brothers. Its simple, traditional style worked perfectly with the family’s neutral wardrobe and bright home.
I keep a curated baby wardrobe in my studio with classic pieces from Feltman Brothers for families to use during their sessions. More wardrobe and planning recommendations are included in my newborn session preparation guide.

Their dog and two cats are an important part of their home, so we made sure to include them too. Photographing three pets with a newborn required a little patience, but the final family portrait was completely worth it!
An in-home newborn session allows pets to participate without bringing them into an unfamiliar studio. They can join us for a few photographs and then relax in another room while we continue the session.

One of the benefits of an in-home newborn photography session is that parents do not have to pack everything or travel shortly after bringing their baby home. I bring everything needed and use the light, furniture, and meaningful spaces already available in the home.
There is no need for every room to be perfectly decorated or spotless. I usually photograph in the areas with the best natural light, which may include the nursery, primary bedroom, or living room.
For this Upper West Side newborn session, the family chose simple white and neutral clothing that worked beautifully with their bright apartment. The soft color palette kept the photographs classic while allowing their connection with their new baby to remain the focus.

In-home newborn sessions are available on the Upper West Side, throughout Manhattan, and in select areas of New York City. These sessions are best scheduled during the first two weeks after birth when possible, but beautiful portraits can still be created with older newborns.
If you are planning an Upper West Side newborn session, I recommend reserving your date before your baby arrives.
