This Upper East Side in-home newborn photography session brought a family of four together for portraits in their own home. We photographed everyone near the windows, then made time for each parent with the baby, the two children together, and a few simple newborn portraits.
The soft window light and familiar setting gave the photos a relaxed feel. An in-home session also gives a family portraits in the place where they’re spending these first weeks together.

We started with a family portrait by the window. The parents held both children, and we photographed them together before moving on to smaller groups. I love making time for a photo of everyone, even when the new baby is the reason for the session.
We also took portraits of the baby with his dad and with his mom. In each one, he’s resting in their arms. These simple photos show how small he was at the beginning and give each parent a portrait with him.

The older sibling joined the baby for a photo of just the two of them, looking down at him while holding him close. We also photographed both children with their mom.
With young children, I keep this part of a newborn session flexible. We can take their photos when they’re ready, give them a break, and continue with the baby and parents. They don’t need to spend the entire session in front of the camera.
After the family portraits, we photographed the baby on his own. One close portrait shows him in a soft blue outfit, while another shows him wrapped in white. The light surroundings keep the focus on his face and the details his family will want to remember.
